Morson Praxis were appointed by Transport for London (TfL) to deliver ongoing Tunnels Maintenance and Capital Works across four geographical areas, ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of London’s critical underground highway network.
Under the London Highways Alliance Contracts (LoHAC), TfL required a trusted partner to provide technology services, maintenance, and system upgrades across London’s extensive tunnel and underpass infrastructure.
The challenge was to deliver seamless, round-the-clock support across all regions—North West, North East, Central, and South—while maintaining operations on one of the world’s busiest road networks.
The eight-year LoHAC agreements, combined with previous six-year contracts, have seen Morson Praxis deliver over ten years of uninterrupted tunnel system maintenance and capital works across the entire TfL estate.
Morson Praxis designed, installed, and supported advanced SCADA, PLC, and control systems to monitor and manage critical assets, ensuring real-time visibility and operational safety for all London road tunnels.
The works included routine and planned maintenance, with monthly, quarterly, and annual site visits providing continuous system health checks, upgrades, and performance assurance.
Decades of smart systems keeping London’s tunnels moving.
Morson Praxis delivered integrated control and monitoring systems across multiple TfL sites, replacing legacy infrastructure with high-reliability, networked solutions. The project included SCADA replacement, PLC hardware upgrades, and network modernisation, integrating remote underpasses, lighting, and pumping stations into a central control system. Bespoke upgrades were completed across key tunnels, including George Green, Green Man, Fore Street, Hanger Lane, Upper Thames Street, Eltham, and Blackwall. These works provided TfL with a unified, secure, and future-proof control environment across its tunnel network.
The TfL Tunnels Maintenance and Capital Works programme delivered:
Full integration of SCADA and PLC systems across all TfL tunnels.
Enhanced reliability and uptime for critical infrastructure.
Energy-efficient lighting and automation for safer, more sustainable operations.
Streamlined maintenance workflows supported by predictive diagnostics and remote monitoring.
A unified, long-term control solution supporting TfL’s vision for a modern, connected highway network.
Morson Praxis’ long-term partnership with TfL continues to ensure that London’s tunnels operate safely, efficiently, and intelligently—day and night.
