Morson Praxis engineers supporting EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C (HPC) project have been shortlisted among the top three finalists at this year’s HPC Excellence Awards, in the ‘Excellence in Quality’ Award category.
The recognition marks the second consecutive year that Morson Praxis engineers involved in the Rebar Enhancement innovation have reached the final stages of the awards, demonstrating the continued impact of their expertise on one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes.
Last year, the wider initiative – involving multiple stakeholders and led by Morson Praxis engineers – received the Gold Award for Best Collaborative Team.
This year, recognition has been given to the Enhancement Surveillance Team, which, at the time of nomination, comprised three Morson Praxis engineers – representing 75% of the team.
Despite its relatively small size, the team has played a pioneering role in developing and implementing a rigorous, quality-led approach designed to support the acceleration of construction activities while maintaining the high standards required on a complex nuclear new-build programme.
Quality as an enabler of better delivery
At the heart of the team’s work is a simple principle: accelerating construction and creating greater flexibility should not mean compromising quality.
Through the Rebar Enhancement initiative, the team has demonstrated how quality can instead become an enabler of improved project performance.
By applying specialist engineering expertise, robust surveillance and close collaboration across project stakeholders, the programme has delivered substantial time and cost efficiencies while simultaneously improving the quality of reinforcement installation activities.
The approach has also contributed to enhanced health and safety conditions for the workforce, demonstrating how considered engineering judgement and a strong quality culture can deliver benefits across multiple aspects of a major programme.
For Morson Praxis, the achievement reflects the value of embedding experienced technical specialists within client teams, where their expertise can be applied directly to complex, real-world challenges.

Whatever the final outcome of this year’s awards, the nomination demonstrates what can be achieved when technical expertise, quality and collaboration are applied together to improve real-world project delivery.
