Paddleboarding for a Purpose: 26-Mile Endurance Challenge

Not all progress is made at a desk.

Sometimes it is made in the field. Over distance, time, and shared intent.

After smashing their previous 3-Peaks 24hr challenge in 2024, raising over £2000 for the British Heart Foundation & Cancer Research, the Morson Praxis Civil & Structural Engineering team are embarking on a new challenge!

Colleagues from the team are preparing to take on an extraordinary endurance challenge this summer, a 26-mile paddleboarding journey in support of a charity close to the heart of the team, Child Bereavement UK.

Taking place on Friday 12th June, the paddleboarding team will launch just below Stamp End Lock in Lincoln and travel downstream along the River Witham, finishing at Langrick Bridge near Boston. Covering a marathon amount of 26 miles entirely by paddleboard, the event is expected to test both physical endurance and mental resilience.

Classed as an elite endurance feat, this long-distance expedition is anticipated to require just over 12 hours of continuous paddling, with the team setting off at first light to give themselves the best possible chance of completion.

Good luck to all of the team who will be undertaking the challenge:

Thomas Peden, Harry Maplethorpe, Joe Baker, Josh Mahony, Louis Wells, Mercedes Rodrigo, Noah Marshall, Peyman Band and Martin Goodwin (driver and support).

The group has chosen to dedicate their efforts to Child Bereavement UK, a charity that supports families and young people coping with grief.

Through this event, the team hopes not only to push their limits but also to raise awareness and funds for a cause that is close to their hearts.

Tom Peden, Civil Engineer and event organiser shared:

“Extensive preparation has gone into ensuring the safety and success of the event. The team has arranged shared accommodation in Boston for both Thursday and Friday night, allowing for an early start on the day of the challenge.

“Transport to Lincoln will be provided via a group minivan, generously loaned by a family member. Martin Goodwin has once again volunteered to drive and will play a crucial support role, shadowing the team at various checkpoints, documenting the journey, and helping ensure everyone’s safety throughout the day.

“The route has been carefully assessed, with designated entry and exit points identified, as well as strategies in place to safely navigate obstacles such as Bardney Lock.”

Support for the team is warmly welcomed. Whether through donations, sharing their story, or words of encouragement, every contribution will help make a difference.
