Oakmont Construction, Dagenham Data Centre

Morson Praxis are proud to have partnered with Oakmont Construction to support the design and build of a large-scale, BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rated data centre in Dagenham, Essex. This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable, secure, and high-quality engineering solutions for critical infrastructure.

Client Brief

Comprehensive Project Support

Oakmont Construction engaged Waldeck to provide multi-disciplinary support throughout the design and construction phases of the data centre. The brief included delivering a sustainable, high-capacity facility capable of supporting technological innovation, while meeting rigorous environmental and security standards. Collaboration with key stakeholders, including NTT, e-shelter, AXA, and the appointed architects, NWA, was central to the project’s success.

Project Overview

Project Scope and Features

The UK London 1 Data Centre forms a key part of a new campus, encompassing a 24,000m² data centre shell and an accompanying gatehouse on a 55,000m² site. Built with both sustainability and security in mind, the facility is designed to support an IT load of up to 60MW and will include an innovation lab to test and trial data servers and technological solutions before deployment.

Externally, the project involved extensive security works, retaining walls, entry roads, and underground infrastructure to connect the site to the Substation. Hard and soft landscaping, a new car park, and access road were also completed to enhance the functionality and appearance of the campus.

Our Solution

BREEAM-Certified Delivery

The data centre was constructed to a shell and core finish, featuring piled foundations, a steel frame, and concrete floors. The development achieved BREEAM ‘Very Good’ through sustainable design measures, including renewable energy via PV arrays, grey water harvesting, and an external living wall.

The Gatehouse was delivered to a CAT A standard, providing toilets, kitchenettes, changing facilities, and a security base for the data centre. Through careful planning and close collaboration with all stakeholders, Waldeck ensured the facility met its sustainability, operational, and security requirements, establishing one of the UK’s largest and most advanced data centres.
