Jaguar Land Rover, Vehicle Operations Facility

Morson Praxis was appointed by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to deliver the Civil and Structural Engineering design for a new state-of-the-art Vehicle Operations facility at one of JLR’s existing sites. This project formed part of JLR’s ongoing investment in enhancing their production capability for premium, high-performance vehicles.

Client Brief

Engineering Excellence for Performance Manufacturing

Jaguar Land Rover required a purpose-built facility to support the production of high-end vehicles, featuring 180 workshop bays and a specialist paint shop. The brief called for an efficient, durable, and future-ready structure that could be integrated seamlessly within JLR’s operational campus, aligning with the company’s exacting standards of quality and innovation.

Project Overview

Expanding Capability at an Established Site

The new Vehicle Operations facility was commissioned to enhance JLR’s manufacturing capacity at an existing site. Designed to accommodate complex production and testing operations, the development included workshop and office facilities, as well as supporting infrastructure to streamline vehicle movement and logistics.

Morson Praxis worked closely with Jaguar Land Rover as part of a long-standing relationship, providing design expertise across several of the manufacturer’s UK facilities.

Our Solutions

Innovative Engineering

Our team was responsible for the full sub-structure and super-structure design for the vehicle operations and office facilities, as well as the design of an underground tunnel beneath the existing test track to connect to the vehicle storage and car park areas.

Collaboration was key to success. Working closely with architects, M&E contractors, fabricators, and groundwork specialists, Morson Praxis delivered a solution that balanced safety, speed, and cost efficiency. Early involvement in the project allowed our engineers to identify challenges caused by poor ground conditions and historic tree roots, developing an innovative and bespoke alternative design approach.

Results

A Cost-Efficient, High-Performance Facility

Through detailed analysis of geo-environmental data, our engineers devised a ‘lean’ substructure solution that removed the need for piled foundations and ground slabs. This intelligent design adaptation delivered significant cost savings for Jaguar Land Rover, while maintaining structural integrity and performance.

The completed facility provides JLR with a world-class environment for vehicle operations, aligning with their brand values of precision, performance, and innovation.

Hear from the experts

Morson Praxis Project Director, Alison Doubell said:

“Morson Praxis have taken responsibility for co-ordination and design of the sub-structure and super-structure of the new development, including the brand new vehicle operations building and office, external works and test track modifications including tunnel under for access to test WIP Parking in the centre of the track. We are delighted to hear that the new site is now populated with staff, and that the vehicle operations facility has already seen car fleets pass through to have works carried out.”
