Morson Praxis were appointed by Sellafield Ltd to carry out the design, analysis, manufacture and CE marking for a new B13 Lifting Beam and Stand, supporting critical waste flask handling operations within the nuclear site.
Sellafield Ltd required a bespoke adjustable lifting beam and park stand to safely support and transport a range of waste flask configurations during site operations.
The equipment needed to be robust, precisely engineered, and fully compliant with lifting regulations and CE marking requirements to ensure operational safety in a highly regulated environment.
The project called for the creation of a custom 15-tonne (15,000kg) lifting beam capable of securely handling varying flask geometries. The design had to allow precise adjustment and balance, ensuring ease of use and reliability during flask transportation and storage processes.
Engineered precision for safe nuclear lifting operations.
Morson Praxis’ engineering team designed and manufactured a precision adjustable lifting beam incorporating:
Adjustable trunnions and detailed alignment markings
A leadscrew mechanism operated by a hand wheel for fine adjustment and balance control
A 15,000kg Working Load Limit (WLL) certified to meet all safety and performance standards
Comprehensive stress analysis and a full technical file were produced to demonstrate compliance with all relevant lifting regulations and CE marking requirements.
The new B13 Lifting Beam and Stand provided Sellafield Ltd with a durable, fully certified lifting solution designed for repeatable accuracy and operator safety.
Through Morson Praxis’ integrated design and manufacturing capabilities, the project was delivered on time, fully compliant, and with verified performance assurance across all operational parameters.
