Morson Praxis were appointed by National Grid to deliver a new Control and Monitoring System for their Electrical Distribution Network, ensuring efficient, safe and intelligent management of critical infrastructure.
National Grid required a modernised control and monitoring solution to oversee their new Electrical Distribution System, including refurbished breakers and 11kV Biomass Switchboards. The system needed to deliver high reliability, dual redundancy, and centralised visibility across operations.
Morson Praxis were tasked with designing, installing and supporting a SCADA and Control System to manage the electrical distribution across the site.
The new setup included: Dual SCADA servers for redundancy, Operator and Engineer Workstations housed in the Materials Handling Control Room and remote monitoring and control of the entire electrical distribution system.
All major works were completed by our in-house engineering teams, with PLC hardware panel fabrication and installation subcontracted to approved partners.
Delivering intelligent control and monitoring for National Grid’s power distribution network.
The new control system was engineered to handle over 1,000 individual I/O data points, utilising hot-standby PLCs and redundant SCADA servers to ensure uninterrupted operation.
Software was developed in accordance with IEC 61131-3 standards, providing a structured, safe and compliant approach for use in the demanding environment of a power station.
All equipment was designed and protected to perform under industrial operating conditions, ensuring long-term system resilience and operator safety.
The project was delivered on time and within budget, providing National Grid with a high-availability, secure and efficient control network.
Key outcomes included:
Fully redundant SCADA and PLC architecture.
Centralised real-time monitoring and control.
Enhanced system safety and maintainability.
Proven reliability in continuous industrial operation.
